WORSHIP
In the Word proclaimed and in the sharing of sacraments, in the music of our choirs, in the prayers of friends gathered and the joy of strangers welcomed, we find renewal, courage, hope and peace.
Sunday
worship begins at 10:30 a.m. (During July and August, at 10:00 a.m.) Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month and at other times throughout the year. Baptism is celebrated by arrangement with the pastor and by approval of the session. Experienced childcare is offered for infants and toddlers at every worship service.
Children and youth worship with their families for the first 10-15 minutes. Children from preschool age through grade 3 are invited to join the pastor at the chancel steps for the Children’s Message, then all go to Church School. On Communion Sundays, children from grades 3-4 through senior high youth either return to the sanctuary or remain in the sanctuary for the sacrament.
The Worship Committee coordinates participation of congregation members as worship leaders, typically reading the responsive call to worship and Bible passages. If you would like to be a lay reader, please speak to Elder Shirley Hawkinson or the pastor.
Music
The Chancel Choir welcomes adults who enjoy singing. The choir sings regularly at Sunday worship from September through mid-June. The choir also leads seasonal services like Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday.
Rehearsals are on Sundays from 9:00 am to 10:00 am in the sanctuary.
The choir sings pieces ranging from traditional to contemporary anthems and motets, African-American spirituals, gospel and sacred music from around the world.
During the summer, the Worship Committee coordinates special music, inviting those who play an instrument or who sing solo or in a small group, to lead worship.
The Youth Choir welcomes children from 4th grade through senior high. The youth choir sings in worship twice each month from September through mid-June, and on Christmas Eve. The Youth choir rehearses for 45 minutes right after Sunday worship, around the piano in the sanctuary.
